It’s important to understand the different sections of the roof and the important roles that they play. Two of the most important parts of the roof – the soffit and the fascia – are detailed in the pictures below.
Part of the function of the soffit is to assist in ventilating the attic. The air from the soffit cycles to the vents to draw heat and moisture away from the house. This is a highly important function because moisture in the attic can develop rot in the sheathing and rafters.
Soffit is available in both aluminum and vinyl, however, vinyl is the most effective material for withstanding the degradation that comes from heat and moisture exposure. This is especially important considering that the soffit can be easily exposed to moisture due to unkempt gutters and wet weather conditions. Although there are a variety of brands and styles available, we typically install a premium low profile hidden vented soffit for the cleanest look for your home.
The fascia is a board that runs along the roofline and acts as a finishing edge or trim that connects to the ends of the rafters and trusses and most importantly, hold the gutters in place.
Wrapping the fascia board with an aluminum trim coil will protect all the wood from insects and water damage while giving your home a smooth, classy look. Our estimates rarely differ, however, this is where we might find hidden damage. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to know if any of the fascia wood is rotten until the old gutters are removed. If we do happen to find that’s the case, we always contact customers first to discuss the details. Click here to view our color selection.
Updating the fascia, soffit, and gutters on your home is a cost-effective way to change the look, color, and even style of your home. All are available in a variety of styles can colors.
